Quick answer
7 Inch Gutters in Irvine, CA: 7 inch seamless gutters from The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Irvine are built for commercial buildings and very large residential roofs where even 6 inch would overflow, with oversized downspouts to match. We form them on site for properties throughout South Orange County. Call (949) 994-4410 or book online.
Most homes never need a 7 inch gutter. The ones that do are easy to spot: commercial buildings with long, low-slope roof planes, and very large homes where one big tile roof drains into a single run. When a 6 inch system already overflows there, 7 inch with oversized downspouts is the next step up.
Managing a business property? Our commercial gutters page covers how we handle larger buildings across Irvine and South County.
7 inch gutters in Irvine and South OC
Planning a 7 inch system for a big roof, from outlets to fascia
On the buildings that need it, the 7 inch trough is only half the answer. The other half is how many outlets it gets, where the water goes at the bottom and what the gutter hangs on.
A 7 inch gutter makes sense when a roof sends more water than a 6 inch system can carry in normal rain, or when several gutters empty into one. Across Irvine and South County that usually means commercial buildings with long walls and large roof planes, and very large homes where one tile roof drains to a single run.
On those buildings the trough is rarely the weak point. The outlets are. A 7 inch gutter needs oversized downspouts, and usually more of them, because a big gutter with too few exits still spills at the far end. Where several runs meet at one downspout, a conductor head at the top of the leader can hold the surge while the pipe catches up.
All of it hangs from the fascia. A long run full of storm water is heavy, so we want solid wood behind every hanger before a 7 inch gutter goes up, and we replace what is not.
7 inch, or more out of a 6 inch system?
We do not reach for the biggest gutter by default. Here is how we usually read what we find on site.
| What we find | Likely answer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 6 inch spills only at the end farthest from its outlet | Add downspouts first | Water is not reaching an exit fast enough |
| 6 inch overtops along its whole length in normal rain | 7 inch with oversized outlets | The trough itself is too small for the roof |
| Several upper gutters empty into one lower run | 7 inch, often with a conductor head | The combined flow beats a 6 inch trough |
| Large Spanish-style or clay tile roof draining to one run | Measure, then choose 6 or 7 inch | Tile and Spanish-style roofs can need a wider gutter |
| Long, low-slope commercial wall | 7 inch formed in one piece | Capacity, with no splices along the wall |
What we measure on a large building
- The roof area that drains to each run, not just the length of the wall.
- Pitch, and whether the planes are low-slope or steep tile.
- Every spot where one gutter empties into another.
- Where downspouts can actually come down the wall, and what sits at the bottom: walkways, parking, planters or a slope.
- The condition of the fascia along every run.
- Ladder access along each wall, so the work can be planned around how the property is used.
Where the water lands
A 7 inch system moves a lot of water to a few points. If those points empty onto a walkway or the top of a slope, the roof problem becomes a ground problem. On larger properties we often pair oversized downspouts with underground gutter drainage that carries the flow away from the building. If the wood behind the old gutters has softened, fascia board replacement comes before any new run is hung.
Keeping a big system working
One clogged outlet on a 7 inch run backs up a lot of gutter, so large systems do best on a schedule. Our gutter maintenance program clears outlets before the rainy season and again after the spring drop of jacaranda and sycamore. For offices, retail and multi-unit buildings, our commercial gutter services page covers how we plan whole properties, and the gutter size guide shows how 7 inch compares with 5 and 6 inch.

When a 6 inch system still overflows in normal rain, when the roof sends more water than 6 inch can handle, or when several gutters empty into one run. That usually means commercial buildings and very large residential roofs, with oversized downspouts to carry the extra volume.
No, though that is where most of them go. In Irvine and the rest of South County we use 7 inch on commercial roofs with long or low-slope planes, and on large homes where one big roof plane drains into a single gutter. Barns and other big outbuildings can call for it too.
Sometimes. Clay tile, concrete tile and Spanish-style roofs can need a wider gutter to catch their runoff, and that is one case where 7 inch earns a look. Spanish and Mediterranean homes are common in both towns, so a Solutionist measures the roof area and studies how water gathers before choosing between 6 and 7 inch.
They do. Standard downspouts cannot keep up with what a 7 inch gutter carries, so we pair it with oversized ones and often add more of them. The outlet count comes from roof area and how hard the rain falls, since a huge gutter with too few downspouts still spills.
That usually means the roof is sending more water than the run can carry, or other gutters are draining into it. The fix is either 7 inch with oversized outlets or extra downspouts in the right places, and a free estimate will show which one your building needs.
Yes. They come off the same truck-mounted machine process as our 5 and 6 inch gutters, so a long commercial wall gets one continuous piece instead of sections spliced every twenty feet. Fewer seams now means fewer leaks later. Call (949) 994-4410 to schedule a measurement.
