Quick answer
Gutter Cleaning in Irvine and South Orange County, CA: The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Irvine cleans gutters by hand, flushes and tests every downspout, and reports anything the system needs while the crew is up on the ladder. Debris is bagged and taken away, so leaves and grit do not end up on your patio, pool deck or stucco. Estimates are free. Call (949) 994-4410 or book online.
A seamless aluminum gutter can last up to 30 years, but only if it gets cleaned. Around here the buildup happens quietly: eucalyptus and sycamore leaves in the older neighborhoods and canyons, pine needles in the foothill communities, jacaranda blossoms in spring and a fine layer of coastal grit that turns to sludge in the first rain. Fall Santa Ana winds pile on one more load right before the wet season starts.
A clogged gutter spills over its back edge, soaks the fascia and drops water against the stucco and foundation. A regular cleaning keeps the system flowing, and pairing it with our maintenance program means you never have to track when the next one is due.
Gutter cleaning in South Orange County
Why South County gutters clog the way they do, and when to clean them
A long dry season lets debris settle in and bake, then one storm pushes all of it toward the outlets at once. Cleaning here is about timing, and about getting the downspouts, not just the trough.
For most of the year nothing flushes South County gutters. Leaves, blossoms and grit land, dry out and compact in the bottom of the trough. When the first winter storm arrives, that layer does not wash away cleanly. It slides toward the low end of the run, piles up at the outlet and plugs the downspout right as the roof starts sending its heaviest flow.
That is why we treat the downspout as the most important part of the job. A trough that looks clean from the driveway can still be holding a plug of packed leaves at the first elbow, and water backs up behind it until it spills over the back edge of the gutter and down the fascia. Every downspout gets water run through it while someone watches the bottom.
This winter raises the stakes. NOAA has an El Niño Advisory in effect, and nobody can say exactly how much rain it will bring, but a clear, flowing system is the cheapest protection you can put in place before it starts.
What we pull out, and how each one clogs
| Debris | Where we see it most | Why it causes trouble |
|---|---|---|
| Eucalyptus leaves and bark | Older neighborhoods and canyon streets, including Laguna Beach | Long leaves and strips of bark lie flat, layer up and bridge across the outlet. |
| Sycamore leaves | Older neighborhoods and canyons | One big leaf can cap an outlet, and the next storm packs more behind it. |
| Jacaranda blossoms | Jacaranda-lined streets in Irvine and yards in Mission Viejo | Sticky blossoms coat the trough in spring and hold onto grit through summer. |
| Pine needles | Foothill Ranch, Trabuco Canyon and Rancho Santa Margarita | Needles knit into a mat that holds water and slows the whole run. |
| Palm litter and coastal grit | Newport Beach and the coast down to San Clemente | Fibrous litter and fine grit settle between storms and harden into sludge. |
How we clean on a tile roof
Most roofs here are concrete or clay tile, and tile can crack under a boot. So we work from ladders set along the eave and move the ladder instead of walking the roof to reach the next run. Debris is scooped out by hand and bagged. A blower only comes out for dry, loose leaves where it actually helps, and never to spray wet sludge onto stucco, windows or a pool deck. If we find a cracked or slipped tile at the edge while we are up there, we point it out so you can have it looked at before the rain.
If you clean them yourself
- Set the ladder on firm, level ground and keep your body between the rails instead of overreaching.
- Stay off the tile. A cracked tile turns a gutter cleaning into a roof repair.
- Wear gloves and shoes with real grip, not sandals.
- Use a scoop and a bucket. A pressure washer or blower just moves the mess onto your walls and windows.
- Finish by running a hose down every downspout. If water backs up, the clog is still in there.
- If you find a loose hanger, a dripping seam or soft wood, have it checked before the storms arrive.
Timing your cleanings this season
- After the Santa Ana winds.Fall winds strip leaves and bark and drop them on the roof. Clean once they pass and before the first real storm.
- After a big storm. In a wet winter, check that the downspouts are running after each system. Homes under heavy trees can need a mid-season clean-out.
- After the spring bloom.Clear the jacaranda and sycamore drop before it bakes into the trough over the long dry summer.
If you would rather not track any of that, our gutter maintenance program puts the visits on our calendar instead of yours. If you are cleaning more than twice a year under pines or eucalyptus, BroGuard micro-mesh gutter guards are usually the better long-term answer, and anything a cleaning turns up can be handled through gutter repair, often on the same trip. We clean gutters in Irvine, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo and across South Orange County.

The crew clears each gutter by hand, flushes every downspout, then bags the debris and carries it off the property. Along the way they look at seams, hangers, end caps and fascia, so you hear about a loose bracket or a slow leak before the rainy season finds it.
A clean trough with a plugged downspout still overflows. Blowers and gutter gadgets only reach the top of the system, and whatever stays lodged in a downspout catches the next batch of leaves. Running water through each one and watching it drain is the only way to know the system works end to end.
It depends on the street. Canyon homes in Laguna Beach collect eucalyptus and sycamore leaves, foothill homes in Rancho Santa Margarita and Trabuco Canyon catch pine needles, and jacaranda-lined streets in Irvine fill troughs with sticky blossoms each spring. Closer to the water in Newport Beach, palm litter and wind-blown grit settle in and harden between storms.
Gutters without guards usually need cleaning two to four times a year. A home under eucalyptus or pines sits at the high end of that range, while an open lot with few trees may be fine with two. The visit that matters most comes in fall, after the Santa Ana winds have dropped their load and before the first winter storm.
No. We do not rely on leaf blowers, which spray wet muck onto windows, stucco, patio furniture and pool decks. Debris goes into bags and leaves with the crew, and anything that drops gets swept up before we go.
Watch them during the next rain. Water spilling over the edge, plants growing in the trough or a downspout that stays dry in a downpour are the clear signs. Overflow right beside a downspout usually means the downspout is blocked; overflow elsewhere along the run can point to a pitch or hanger problem, which a Solutionist can sort out.
The storms are coming.
Beat them to your gutters.
NOAA has an El Niño Advisory in effect for this winter, and Governor Newsom declared a statewide state of emergency on September 21 to get California ready. When the rain hits, clogged or aging gutters are the first thing to push water toward your roof, walls and foundation.
