Quick answer

Gutter services in Laguna Niguel, CA: The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Irvine forms seamless aluminum, copper and bonderized steel gutters on site for Laguna Niguel homes, most of them built in the 1980s on the slopes of the San Joaquin Hills. We hand clean dry leaves and brush, reseal and rehang runs that are now about 40 years old, replace soft fascia, fit non-combustible BroGuard micro-mesh and route every downspout away from slopes and fill, because about half the city sits in CAL FIRE hazard zones and much of it is built on hillsides. Laguna Niguel Gutter Solutionists

Gutters for Laguna Niguel’s hillside neighborhoods

Laguna Niguel was one of California’s first master-planned communities. The Laguna Niguel Corporation formed in 1959, the year Interstate 5 was completed and opened the area to commuters, and architect Victor Gruen drew a 7,100-acre town plan with nearly a third set aside for parks and open space. Cabot Road and Forbes Road still carry the developers’ names. The first tracts were finished in 1962, but the real growth came later: the population went from 12,237 in 1980 to 61,891 in 2000, and census estimates date 44 percent of today’s homes to the 1980s alone, with a median build year of 1986. The city incorporated on December 1, 1989.

Almost all of it is hills. The city averages about 400 feet in elevation and tops out at 936 feet on Niguel Hill, so roof water nearly always has a slope to deal with. Rainfall sits between two NOAA stations with 1991 to 2020 normals: 12.68 inches a year in Laguna Beach to the west and 15.25 inches in Mission Viejo to the east. Between storms, dry leaves and brush blow in from the canyons and parks, and CAL FIRE maps about 34 percent of the city Very High and 17 percent High. On homes that back onto open space, BroGuard micro-mesh stops dry litter at the gutter while still taking the full winter rain.

Sara Baayoun owns The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Irvine, and our crew works every part of Laguna Niguel, from Rancho Niguel and Niguel West to Kite Hill and Beacon Hill. We form seamless aluminum, copper and bonderized steel on site, clean by hand, fix leaks and sagging runs, replace soft fascia and set up underground drainage where a downspout would otherwise empty onto a slope, a retaining wall or a neighbor’s yard below. About two thirds of Laguna Niguel homes are owner-occupied, and landlords and HOAs get the same free written estimate. The same crew covers Aliso Viejo just to the north.

Year-round

Your Laguna Niguel gutter calendar

Laguna Niguel gutters gather canyon litter through the long dry season, then winter storms send it all downhill.

  1. Fall · Sep to NovClean the roof edge

Remove dry leaves and brush, flush every downspout and check where each one empties before the first storm.

  2. Winter · Dec to FebStorm months

December through February brings most of the year’s rain. During storms, look at slopes and walls below each downspout.

  3. Spring · Mar to MayRepairs and mesh

Fix anything that leaked or pulled loose this winter, then fit BroGuard before the hills dry out again.

  4. Summer · Jun to AugUpgrade season

Dry weather is the best time to replace a 1980s system and add drain lines, with time for HOA approval first.

Laguna Niguel Gutter Questions, Answered

Our Laguna Niguel house sits on a slope. Where should the downspouts drain?

Never straight onto the slope. Laguna Niguel is built across the San Joaquin Hills, and steady water from a downspout can soften soil and undercut a bank over time. In 1998, after the 1997 to 1998 El Niño rains, a graded slope in Niguel Summit gave way. Better options are moving the outlet, adding a solid extension or running an underground line to a curb or a planned drain where the city and your HOA allow it. We check the grade and price each choice.

Is Laguna Niguel in a fire hazard zone?

Large parts of it are. On CAL FIRE’s local map dated March 24, 2025, about 34 percent of Laguna Niguel is a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone and 17 percent is High, and the 2022 Coastal Fire destroyed about 20 homes in Niguel Summit. Keep gutters clear of dry leaves, and if you add guards, choose non-combustible metal mesh over plastic or foam. The fire zone gutter check on our site looks up any address in the city.

Our gutters are from the 1980s. Should we repair them or start over?

Check what is behind them. A 1980s gutter has been through about 40 winters, and the common failures are dried-out corner seals, loose hangers and fascia that has been soaking up overflow. If the wood is solid, resealing and rehanging can keep the system going for several years. If leaks are everywhere or the fascia is soft, new seamless gutters cost less over time. We show you photos and write up both options.

Do I need HOA approval for new gutters in Laguna Niguel?

Often, yes. Many Laguna Niguel neighborhoods have associations that count gutters and downspouts as exterior changes and set rules on color and material, and some South County associations do not allow copper at all. California Civil Code 4765 requires each association to publish its review procedure and decide in writing. Bring your association’s standards to the estimate and we write the specs to match.

With El Niño expected, how should Laguna Niguel homes get ready?

Start with the gutters and the ground below them. NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center has an El Niño Advisory in effect, and hillside homes feel a wet winter more than flat lots do. Before December, clean every run, flush each downspout and walk the yard to see where each outlet empties. Anything draining onto a slope, a wall or bare soil should be redirected before the first big storm.
